The Technical Audit: Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Bat-Swing Faces a Structural Test in Manchester
A Rajasthan Royals teammate casts doubt on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's style ahead of the Manchester T20I. Inside the technical analysis of his bat-swing.
I've always believed that some cricket events are so precious that they could never be replicated. Sanju Samson has proven that I was incorrect. When he played in a high-voltage IPL 2026 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans on April 26 2026, the CSK opener hit a shot that sent shivers up the spine of any cricket lover. We all know that Virat Kohli's straight six against Haris Rauf at the MCG in 2022 was considered as the "shot of the century." The sight of Sanju Samson reflect that exact back-foot hit over bowler's forehead was nothing short of astounding.

The Moment of Magic: Mirroring the King at Chepauk
The difficult technical aspect of this shot by looking at the replays. Amid a torrential strike coming from Kagiso Rabada who was rushing into the ball with a purposeful intent, Sanju Samson did not appear to slow down or play over the line. He stood up tall waiting for the short shot, and then utilized his flawless timing to kick the ball directly back across the screen.
I was amazed that Kagiso Rabada could not help looking at me in amazement. The shot wasn't just a 6 the shot was an entire statement. It is well-known that Virat Kohli was under tremendous pressure in the year India required 28 off eight balls to win at the MCG. Although the situation in today's match differed, the way in which it was executed -- the straight shot and weight on the back foot was identical to the shot on the historic evening.
Tactical Brilliance: Sanju Samson's Role as CSK Opener
I believe that this image is a symbol of the newest, bold model that Sanju Samson we see in the IPL in 2026. After his move to the starting position in the IPL 2026 season for Chennai Super Kings Samson has tempered his natural ability by embracing a confidence in his responsibility. I am convinced that his collaboration along with Ruturaj Gaikwad in the top spot is what has made the CSK an one of the best stable batting teams this season.
elite timing: Samson currently has a strike rate of more than 191 during the powerplay throughout the 2026 season.
Technical Mastery In the face of bowlers like the Rabada or Shami Shami, he often uses his "back-foot punch" as a tool to cut off the length of their bowls.
The psychological edge: Shooting the ball normally used by Virat Kohli will put opponents in the wrong position right away.

Authentic Insight: Why the MCG Shot is Hard to Recreate
The shot Virat Kohli shot against Haris Rauf was a standout due to the bounce and speed that was the Melbourne track. The shot was played on Chepauk which is a track that tends to be slow and sluggish and slow, is a challenge that requires more strength in the core as well as timing. I believe Sanju Samson is among the very few athletes in the world with the bat speed needed to get the ropes with ease while standing on his back.
It is evident the impact on Kohli's legacy on his younger generation. Samson who's often expressed his love for"the "King," didn't just perform a shot in cricket He channeled his memories. In my view it's not just about six runs, but the confidence and determination of a person who believes he is on the top end on the international scene.
Final Verdict: Is Samson the New Master of the Straight Six?
It is my belief that we are in the midst of an incredible year for this CSK player. No matter what it is, whether his lightning fast stumping technique to oust Shubman Gill or his MCG-style six, Sanju Samson is the current heartbeat of the league. With the time approaching the end of business for the IPL in 2026 the form of his team will determine the outcome in Chennai's chances of winning the IPL playoffs.
It's clear that the crowd in Chepauk are treat him like their very own. If he keeps playing "Shot of the Century" contestants every match, it's going to be soon before we are speaking about this Samson time alongside the greats. We can for now just sit and gaze at the majesty of a shot which left even the most feared of champions like Kagiso Rabada in a trance, with his jaw firmly to the floor.
