The Technical Audit: Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Bat-Swing Faces a Structural Test in Manchester
A Rajasthan Royals teammate casts doubt on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's style ahead of the Manchester T20I. Inside the technical analysis of his bat-swing.
I've witnessed the legend Ricky Ponting in many moods through his entire career. However, his stance in his performance in the IPL 2026 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on the 19th of April 2026 was one of the most memorable "Punter" moment. It is well-known that Ricky Ponting is a man who demands the highest level of performance in the field. And the moment Shashank Singh suffered a gruelling performance in the deep cameras captured the head coach's glaring frustration. This incident became viral, specifically due to the antics of the captain Shreyas Iyer in the handshakes post-match.

The Night of Three Drops: Shashank Singh's Fielding Disaster
It's not often that you see an athlete with Shashank Singh's ability struggle as much within the field. It was apparent that the issue was evident very early in the LSG innings, when he laid the ball down with a pretty straightforward shot at Nicholas Pooran. But, things reached boiling in the 17th over. Aiden Markram lofted an over from Arshdeep Singh to the line of cover The ball was thrown by Aiden Markram towards the cover boundary, and Shashank was seen to be suffering an unimaginable "brainfade."
Instead of attempting to strike the ball in hopes of catching it the player simply held his position, was not sure of the direction of flight, and waited for the ball go through his face for the six. It was this incident that really test the endurance in the dugout. And to make things worse the player dropped another catch, this time on Mukul Choudhary--just one over after.
A Tally Shashank Singh has thrown a massive three catch in one match.
The Bowler's Reaction Arshdeep Singh was seen screaming at the ball in a clear anger at his lack of assistance from his fielder.
The Coach's Disbelief Ricky Ponting was observed sitting with his head between his hands and staring in complete disbelief at the chaos that is unfolding.
Post-Match Drama: Shreyas Iyer to the Rescue
We all know that Shreyas Iyer is a captain with the ability to deal with huge people. In the wake of the PBKS's impressive win by 54 runs at the end of the day, players lined up to exchange handshakes as usual. It is evident from the videos it was evident that Iyer knew conscious that what "hairdryer treatment" likely awaiting Shashank.
A jolly move which won the hearts of fans Iyer playedfully attempted to conceal Shashank Singh's face using his cap when they came up to Ricky Ponting. I think it was a great act of leadership, which eased the tension. For his part, Ponting--while at times stern in the contest, he showed his gentle side when accepting Shashank by giving him an "magic hug" and a smile, despite the mistakes, in celebration of the team's huge victory.
Tactical Breakdown: PBKS's Record-Breaking Batting Performance
In spite of the errors in fielding however, it is clear the fact that Punjab Kings are in the midst of being the most dangerous bat unit of the IPL 2026. Here are the main stats of their record-breaking innings in the following paragraphs.

Professional Analysis: The High Standards of Ricky Ponting
It is my opinion that it is crucial to highlight the reason Ricky Ponting seemed so animated. We know that the PBKS had a disappointing finish in the IPL 2025 which is why they want to take it one step further in the coming year. When it comes to playoffs with high stakes 3 missed catch opportunities could make the difference between winning the trophy and a trip to home.
There is a clear indication that, even although the team scored an impressive 254 but the coach is in the business of "discipline and process." Shashank Singh is an absolute revelation when it comes to bat during the season, but his "horrendous field day" serves as a reminder of the fact that, for the case of a Ricky Ponting-led team, you can't afford to let your team down.
The Punjab Kings continue their quest for the playoffs and are sitting on top of the league. Although Shashank Singh is likely to want to erase the tapes from the fielding feat The camaraderie displayed in the game by Shreyas Iyer and the subsequent support by Ponting suggests that the team's energy is on a level. Be on the lookout for their next match and the leaders of the league will be looking to strengthen their skills prior to the end of the competition.
