Shreyas Iyer's Bold Praise: "One for the Future"
On the TV show "Believe the Dream' following Punjab Kings' triumph against Lucknow, Shreyas Iyer was not the usual lavish in his praises. I was impressed by the way he highlighted the subtleties of his technical skills that make Sooryavanshi make a mark from his fellow players. We all know that many youngsters rely on their raw power. However, Iyer mentioned the rhythm as well as "bat flow" that suggest the foundation is much more solid.
"He is a spectacular talent, and all the adjectives would be pretty much less for him," Iyer said. It is clear that he considers the young man to be not just a seasonally-based marvel. In describing him as "one for the future," Iyer is essentially supporting claims that selectors of the national team have a keen look at the left-handeder in future international assignments.
The Statistical Explosion of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
It's impossible to talk about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi without examining the results he's produced for the IPL in 2026. It has been my experience that veterans have struggled to cope with the stress on The Powerplay however this young man has transformed the game into his own playground. We all know that the strike rate in contemporary T20 is crucial, and Sooryavanshi can be said to running at a pace that could be one of the best in the league's time for an opener.
Boundary Machine He's hit 36 boundaries in the last 76 balls of this season.

The most interesting aspect of this report is the news of the fact that Shreyas Iyer as well as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi are in the process of being selected for the identical India team later this year. It is known that Iyer has been seeking a permanent back to the T20I set-up following his stellar performance in the team of Punjab Kings. While there is a "wonderkid" narrative around Sooryavanshi has forced selectors to look at for a "fast-track" approach similar to that of a youthful Sachin Tendulkar.
The strategic value that having an anchor-hitter player like Iyer and an aggressive opener such as Sooryavanshi might change the Indian approach to T20. I believe Iyer's Iyer's appeal to "just be yourself" is precisely what a new player requires when transitioning out of playing in the IPL into the world stage.
Final Verdict: A Changing of the Guard?
We are seeing an important shift in speed in Indian cricket. It is evident in the manner that Shreyas Iyer likes and appreciates the "flamboyant" style of the younger generation. The IPL was always an intermediary between the national team. However, Sooryavanshi has turned this bridge into an expressway.
If the reports are accurate and both players are featured for India very soon this will be an indication of the quality of talent available in the nation. In the meantime, Iyer remains focussed on leading the PBKS However, his eyes - and those of any cricket enthusiast are focused on the youngster who makes an impossible-to-make look simple. It is evident that the admiration is reciprocal and the prospects for Indian batsmanship is better than ever before.
